1. What Gochiso Is
Gochiso is a family recipe book for iPhone and iPad, developed by Orochi Systems in Tokyo. You add recipes by typing them, scanning them from paper, saying them out loud, or pasting a link, and share the cookbook with the people you cook for. It is free, has no in-app purchases, and needs no account. Everything you enter stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud.
2. Contact Support
Email gochiso@orochisystems.com for Gochiso support. We can help with adding and editing recipes, scanning and voice memos, importing from a link, sharing a cookbook with your family, iCloud sync, Cooking Mode and the timer, the family album, Measures, backups and PDF export, themes and app icons, and privacy questions. We answer in English, Japanese, or Turkish.
3. What to Include in a Bug Report
Please include: - The Gochiso version, shown at the bottom of Settings. - Your device, for example iPhone 17 Pro or iPad Air. - Your iOS or iPadOS version. - Which screen or recipe is involved. - What you expected to happen and what happened instead, step by step if you can. - Whether iCloud Sync is on, whether the cookbook is shared, and whether the problem appears on one device or on all of them. Screenshots help. Redact anything you would rather not share first.
4. No Account, and What That Means for Support
Gochiso has no account, no login, and no server for your recipes. Your cookbooks live on your devices and in your own iCloud, and Orochi Systems cannot see, retrieve, or repair them. If a recipe looks wrong, we can explain what the App does and how to fix it, but we cannot look at your data or restore it for you. Keep a Complete Backup (Settings → Backup & Restore) of a library you care about.
5. Quick Checks
If Gochiso is not behaving as expected, first verify the following. - You are running the latest version of Gochiso. - Your device is on iOS 18.2 or iPadOS 18.2 or later. - For sync and sharing, the device is signed in to iCloud and Gochiso is allowed to use iCloud in the Settings app. The iCloud row in Gochiso's Settings should read as up to date. - For scanning, voice memos, and the timer, the camera, microphone, speech recognition, or notification permission has been granted in the Settings app.
6. Adding Recipes
Type: fill in the name, then add ingredients and steps in the Add tab; drafts are saved as you go and are still there after a relaunch. Scan from paper: point the camera at a handwritten card or a cookbook page. Gochiso reads the text and sorts it into ingredients and steps; review the result before saving. Say it out loud: record a voice memo and Gochiso transcribes it on your device and sorts it. Long memos can take a moment to finish transcribing after you stop; speak the ingredients first, then the steps, for the best result. From a link: paste a recipe URL, or use the Share button in Safari and choose Gochiso. Most recipe sites work; if a site has no structured recipe, Gochiso tries to read the page text and you can tidy the result.
7. Sharing a Cookbook With Your Family
Open Settings → Invite Family and send the invitation, usually through Messages. The other person needs their own Apple Account signed in to iCloud and Gochiso installed. When they tap the link, Gochiso opens and the shared cookbook appears in their library. Everyone in the cookbook can add and edit recipes, and each recipe shows whose it is. The owner can remove a participant or stop sharing from the same screen, and a participant can leave at any time. Sharing does not work in the iOS Simulator and needs two different Apple Accounts.
8. iCloud Sync
With iCloud Sync on, your recipes are stored in your private iCloud and appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Sync usually takes a moment, and longer on a slow connection or right after a large import. If a change does not appear on another device, confirm both devices use the same Apple Account, open Gochiso on each, and give it a minute. If two people edit the same recipe at the same time, the later edit wins. Turning iCloud Sync off keeps your recipes only on that device; recipes you add while it is off are kept locally and can be copied into your cookbook from the iCloud screen when you turn it back on.
9. Cooking Mode and the Timer
Cooking Mode shows one step at a time in large type, keeps the ingredients a tap away, and keeps the screen awake until you leave it. The timer runs even when you leave the screen and shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island; allow notifications when asked so it can sound when the time is up. When the dish is done, What We Made lets you take a photo and write a line about how it went, and the photo joins the family album.
10. Backups, Restore, and PDF
Settings → Backup & Restore. Complete Backup writes a .gochisobackup file with your recipes, photos, and voice memos to a place you choose, such as iCloud Drive or the Files app; Restore merges one back in without overwriting your current cookbooks. Export PDF makes a printable cookbook that can also be restored from, so a printed copy is never a dead end. Files from the earlier NamNam name still restore.
11. Measures
The Measures tab lists cups and spoons for the region you pick, converts weights and volumes for common ingredients, and shows oven temperatures with gas marks and fan-oven adjustments. Values are kitchen approximations; check anything that matters for baking against your own scale.
12. Language
Gochiso is available in English, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, German, Spanish, and French. The interface follows your device language, and you can choose a different language inside the App under Settings → Language. System pieces such as the share sheet, Siri, and the widget gallery follow the device language.
13. Privacy and Safety Note
Do not send passwords, Apple Account credentials, or other secrets. If you share screenshots or a backup file, remember that they contain your recipes and any photos you attached. Recipes imported from websites belong to their authors; keep them for your own cooking.
