1. Overview
Quartz is an iPhone and Apple Watch focus-tracking app developed by Orochi Systems. Quartz is built with a local-first model for focus sessions and derived metrics. Quartz is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis or treatment.
2. Health and Session Signals
During sessions, Quartz can process heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), movement intensity, active energy, and derived focus metrics (such as live score, deep-focus duration, and trend summaries).
3. HealthKit Permissions
Quartz requests HealthKit access to read required signals (heart rate) and optional signals (such as HRV and resting heart rate). Quartz also requests permission to write workout samples and can optionally write completed sessions as mindful minutes. You can grant, deny, or revoke permissions in Apple settings at any time.
4. Local Storage
Session history, baseline calibration values, preferences, reminders, and export data are stored on your device. Quartz shares limited summary data through Apple app-group storage so widgets, Live Activities, and watch surfaces can display current state.
5. Apple Watch Connectivity
Quartz uses Apple Watch connectivity to send session commands (start, pause, resume, end) and receive watch telemetry packets between your own paired devices for real-time scoring.
6. Widgets, Live Activity, and Complications
Quartz can display session and daily summary information in iOS widgets, Live Activity/Dynamic Island, and watch complications using Apple platform frameworks.
7. Analytics and Tracking
Quartz asks for your analytics preference in-app. If you allow analytics, Quartz records coarse product-usage events (for example, paywall visibility or settings actions). Quartz does not collect biometric samples for analytics, does not use advertising SDKs, and is not designed for cross-app or cross-site tracking.
8. CloudKit and iCloud Usage
Quartz uses CloudKit infrastructure for remote configuration values and iCloud account-availability checks. In the current client implementation, Quartz focus-session records are kept local on device and are not uploaded as user cloud sync records by default.
9. Subscriptions and Billing Infrastructure
If you purchase Quartz Pro, subscription billing is handled by Apple App Store. Quartz also uses RevenueCat/StoreKit infrastructure for entitlement and offering resolution.
10. Data Sharing and Sale
We do not sell personal data and do not provide your focus-session history to data brokers. Apple platform services may process operational data required to deliver app functionality, purchases, and platform APIs.
11. Data Retention, Export, and Deletion
You can export session data from settings (CSV), delete sessions in-app, and remove local data by uninstalling Quartz. Health samples written by Quartz can be managed from Apple Health controls.
12. Security
Quartz relies on Apple platform security controls and encrypted transport where applicable. While reasonable safeguards are applied, no system can be guaranteed completely secure.
13. Children's Privacy
Quartz is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
14. International Users
If you use Quartz outside your home jurisdiction, local privacy laws may apply. Apple platform services involved in app delivery may process operational data under their own infrastructure and legal obligations.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
